Netherlands Modular Container House Project
This modular container house project is located in the Netherlands and was designed as a modern backyard living space. The client wanted a fully functional room that could be installed quickly, blend naturally with the garden, and stay comfortable throughout different seasons.
To match the local Dutch residential style, the house uses warm wood-tone exterior panels, large glass doors, and a compact modular layout. The overall design feels modern, practical, and cozy at the same time.
This project shows that prefab container houses are not only for temporary living. They can also be a stylish and useful extension for private homes, such as a garden office, guest room, or relaxing leisure space.

Customer needs
Jan de Vries:As a homeowner in the Netherlands, I wanted to create a compact modular house that could be placed in my backyard without major construction work. It was important to me that the house fit naturally with the garden, the fence, and the style of my home.
I also wanted it to be strong, practical, and comfortable for everyday use — something simple, well-designed, and a bit gezellig, just like a cozy Dutch home extension.
Leta(our sales):Great!let’s turn your backyard into a cozy little Dutch-style hideaway, without the mess of heavy construction.

(Jan de Vrie is thinking about container house design.)
The main requirements included:
● A modern exterior that fits naturally into a Dutch home garden.
● Good insulation to handle damp, rainy, and cold weather.
● Large glass windows to bring in plenty of natural light.
● Durable exterior materials suitable for long-term outdoor use.
● A flexible indoor space that can be used for living, working, or relaxing.
● Fast installation with minimal disruption to the existing home.

>Material Solution
For this project, the container house was built with a strong modular steel structure and practical finishing materials suitable for outdoor residential use.
>Main Structure
The main frame uses anti-rust treated steel, giving the house good stability for transportation, lifting, and long-term use. Compared with traditional construction, the modular steel structure helps shorten the building time and reduces on-site work.
>Wall System
The wall panels can be customized based on the client’s budget and insulation needs. Common options include rock wool, PU, or EPS insulated sandwich panels.
For the Netherlands, better insulation and moisture resistance are very important because the local climate is often rainy and damp. Insulated wall panels help keep the indoor space comfortable, reduce heat loss, and make the house suitable for year-round use.
>Exterior Finish
The exterior uses a warm wood-grain finish, which blends naturally with the Dutch garden setting. This makes the container house feel less industrial and more like a modern backyard studio or garden room.
The orange-brown tone creates a nice natural contrast with the green lawn and plants, making the whole house look warmer and more attractive.
>Doors and Windows
The front side uses large glass doors to bring in more natural light and create a stronger connection between the indoor space and the garden.
The black aluminum frames give the project a clean and modern look, matching well with contemporary residential design. Side windows also provide ventilation and help keep the room bright and comfortable.
>Roof and Waterproofing
The roof system is designed with waterproof sealing and drainage treatment. This is especially important for projects in the Netherlands, where rain protection and moisture resistance are key factors for outdoor buildings.
>Hard Decoration Design
For this Dutch residential project, the hard decoration focuses on clean lines, practical materials, and long-lasting durability. The overall design is simple, modern, and easy to maintain for everyday use.

The interior hard decoration includes:
● Insulated wall panels to improve thermal performance.
● PVC or SPC flooring that is waterproof, wear-resistant, and durable.
● Integrated ceiling panels with a clean and simple lighting design.
● Aluminum-framed glass doors and windows to bring in natural light.
● Electrical wiring and sockets can be installed based on the layout needs.
● Simple skirting lines and corner trims for a clean and neat final look.
● Bathroom or kitchenette areas can be added according to the client’s needs.
The design style should stay simple and practical. In the Dutch market, customers usually prefer clean, bright, and functional indoor spaces rather than overly complicated decoration.
Soft Furnishing Suggestions
To make the container house feel more like a cozy living space, soft furnishings play an important role.
Since this project is placed in a garden setting, the interior can follow a warm, natural, and simple Dutch-inspired style.
Recommended soft furnishing elements include:
● Light-colored curtains or blinds for privacy.
● A neutral-tone sofa or lounge chair.
● A wooden table or small work desk.
● A soft rug to add warmth and comfort.
● Indoor plants to connect the room with the garden view.
● Warm white lighting to create a cozy atmosphere.
● Simple wall decorations or framed artwork.
● Storage cabinets to keep the space clean and organized.
Natural colors such as beige, light grey, white, wood tones, and soft green are recommended. These colors work well with the garden surroundings and help create a calm, comfortable feeling.

Dutch-Style Design Solution
In the Netherlands, many homes have private gardens, but the outdoor space is often narrow and limited. Because of this, many homeowners need extra living space without doing major construction.
A modular container house is a practical option. It can be used as a garden office, guest room, hobby room, small studio, or even part of a rental living space.
For a Dutch-style project, the key design points include:
● Large windows to bring in more natural light.
● Warm wood-tone exterior walls that match the garden surroundings.
● Good insulation to handle seasonal temperature changes.
● Waterproof and moisture-resistant materials.
● A compact structure that fits well in a backyard.
● A simple interior design with flexible functions.
In this case, the goal was to make the modular house feel like a natural part of the garden, not like a temporary container unit. The warm exterior, glass entrance, and clean layout help create a comfortable and modern living space.
Installation Process
This project used prefabricated components to reduce on-site construction work.
First, the main steel structure and wall panels were produced in the factory. The doors, windows, electrical system, and main interior parts were also prepared before shipping. After quality inspection, the container house was packed and delivered to the Netherlands.
When it arrived on site, the foundation area was already prepared. The modular house was then positioned, connected, sealed, and checked. Compared with traditional construction, this method saves time and reduces noise, waste, and disturbance to the homeowner’s property.
Final Result
The project created a modern, practical, and comfortable backyard space. It blends naturally with the garden and gives the homeowner a flexible extra room for different daily needs.
With a strong steel frame, insulated wall system, waterproof exterior treatment, and warm residential-style design, this modular container house is a great fit for the Dutch market and other European home projects.
